Vanessa Hasse
Vanessa Hasse is an Assistant Professor of International Business at the Ivey Business School. Her primary research interests focus on exploring firm-level responses to performance signals (including those triggered by crises/rare events) in an international context, as well as the impact cultural and temporal dimensions have on managerial decision-making.
Her research has been published in outlets such as the Academy of Management Journal, Global Strategy Journal, and more. She has received international recognition for her work, including the 2023 IM Division Best Paper Award in OB/HRM/OT (AOM) and the 2017 IM Division D’Amore-McKim School of Business, Northeastern University, Best Dissertation Award in International Management (AOM).
Dr. Hasse has authored several case studies and has been recognized as a management educator for her innovations in designing transformative learning experiences. She is the recipient of multiple Teaching Excellence Awards (2021/2022/2023) and was named a Finalist for the 2021 Academy of International Business Teaching Innovation Award.

Pengfei Li
Pengfei Li is an associate professor in the area of Strategy and Global Management at Haskayne School of Business, University of Calgary, Canada. He received his PhD from Peking University in China and was a Banting postdoc fellow at the University of Toronto. Covering the overlapping areas between international business and economic geography, his research focuses on industrial clusters, knowledge creation over space, location and innovation strategy of multinationals, and digital platforms. Over the past decade, he has conducted extensive field work in China and Canada. His papers appear in Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Economic Geography, Economic Geography, Research Policy, and have been awarded by the American Association of Geographers, the Regional Studies Associations (UK), and Academy of International Business.
He teaches international business, global business environment, and strategy management for undergraduate and MBA students and has developed several cases, including two on Amazon: Amazon’s Second Headquarters (A and B) and Competing with Dragons: Amazon in China, the latter a bestseller at Harvard Business Publishing.

Tommaso Ferretti
Tommaso is a Professor of International Business at the Telfer School of Management, University of Ottawa, and an Advisor to the Alliances for Action Program of the International Trade Centre (UNCTAD/WTO). He holds a Ph.D. in strategy and organization from McGill University (Montreal, Canada), a master’s in international law of human rights from Università di Pisa (Italy), and a master’s in international public affairs from LUISS University (Rome, Italy)., Tommaso’s research is situated at the nexus of international business policy and strategy. It investigates the enablers and implications of impact investing in agro-commodities GVCs. In particular, Tommaso’s work captures collaborative approaches to de-risk investments in global value chain sustainability and emphasizes how sources of sustainable agri-financing unlock micro, small, and medium enterprises’ sustainability strategies and innovation. Before his Ph.D., Tommaso worked at the International Trade Centre as an international consultant managing the development and coordination of policy and commercial alliances in the cocoa sector in Ghana, the iron and steel and horticulture sectors in Zimbabwe, and the coconut sector in the Caribbean Region. He also has previous private sector experiences in Italy and Spain.

Sergio W. Carvalho
Dr. Carvalho, the incumbent F.C. Manning Chair in Economics and Business, is a Professor of Marketing at the Faculty of Management, Dalhousie University. His current role extends to the National Director of the Schwartz/Reisman Canada/Israel Exchange Program. Dr. Carvalho’s impressive track record includes serving as the Acting Associate Dean of Projects and Planning, as well as the Director of the Center for International Trade and Transportation at Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Management. His leadership also shone at the Rowe School of Business and the Asper School of Business, University of Manitoba, where he acted as the Marketing Area Coordinator and Marketing Department Head, respectively.
His academic degrees include a Ph.D. in Business/Marketing from Baruch College/The Graduate School of the City University of New York, an MBA in Finance from Northeastern University, and a BBA from the University of Fortaleza, Brazil. Dr. Carvalho further enriched his expertise with Post Graduate Diplomas in International Business and Finance from the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce in France and FGV-Fundacao Getulio Vargas in Brazil, respectively.
Dr. Carvalho’s research, largely funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Council of Canada, offers groundbreaking insights into consumer behavior and international marketing. His work has appeared in numerous prestigious journals such as the Journal of Marketing, International Journal of Research in Marketing, and the Journal of Business Ethics.
